Barrière Poker Tour Finals - November 15, Enghien
Not much to say about the final barrier Poker Tour, which took place the weekend of 13-14 November in Enghien les Bains: I was with Cyrille Lefranc, who took over the official photos. For my part, I'm busy photos for the Facebook page Barrière Poker. And it is this that has troubled me: the last three years, I usually cover events in text and photos, sometimes video. A
Enghien I've had to take some pictures spread throughout the weekend. That said, luckily Cyril was there, because the package of official photographs he took charge required a technical background that I have not yet acquired. It's going to come slowly.
The "casting" of the BPT was a real pleasure sixty candidates for "Barrier Player of the Year" were present, and began casting in s'écharpant happily in a doubles tournament shoot-out, the struct ure worthy of an industrial slaughterhouse. It was also able to attend some scenes of high comedy potential, such as when which exceeded a player has left the poker-room shouting "But what chattarde! What chattarde! " talking Sabrina Derdaa. Which, shrugging his shoulders with an air of fatalism, preferred not to meet. "Oh no " correct also one of her friends, from the rail of the spectators, " when a woman says she is' bitte ', not' chatted ', let us put the thing in their place, anyway. "
SNG Of these sixteen elected emerged, who returned the next day for a written test involving a questionnaire general knowledge of poker, stats, honest, etc. ...
The sixteen then played a series of heads-up - Rated by the pros of Team Barrier - after which eight profiles emerged. Finally, the last eight are in turn passed to a jury composed of personalities, jury announced its choice a few hours later.
The lucky winner was then Adrian Allain, who was called to the crowd during a break at the final table of the main event. I can not imagine what felt Adrian: After a deep-run in the main event, he had been eliminated following a face-to Vikash Dhorasoo, when he had one of the largest carpet moment: horrible disappointment, frustration, anger.
Soon he learns that he landed a sponsorship of € 120,000: happiness, elevation, party.
is probably the accumulation of these mixed feelings that generated this moving performance: when Lucille Denos, poker manager at Barrier, brought to Adrian that he says a few words, he gave of a tiny voice that was very happy, his face remaining marble, seeming completely overtaken by events, and visibly affected. It is also for those time we do this trade see a player like Adrian, who has a poker-face rather elaborate, in fact experiencing the same feelings as you and me ...
WPT Marrakech - November 20 to 30
For almost two years since I returned to my roots in the middle of the campaign Charollais, how to get to the airport is a little more complicated than before: I take my car to go to the local train station, where a TER embark for the Gare de Lyon-Part Dieu. From there I jumped into the Rhônexpress, the recent streetcar line that leads me to the Saint Exupery airport in half an hour.
few hours later, I find myself with the ClubPoker Xav13 Jaybee and to bargain the taxi to get to the Golden Tulip Hotel in Marrakech which houses all the reporters and dealers, located some distance from the Es-Saadi. Upon our arrival, the lobby seems to have been monopolized by the ClubPoker: Lawrence, Comanche, FCP, Piercy, SuperCaddy - to name a few - are to recover their keys. Quickly, we must confront a terrible reality: no internet connection in rooms. Gulp. My soul trembles geek still remember the announcement of this new and, indeed, seats and sofas in the lobby are full of guys who pat on the keypad of their phone, the only Wi-Fi connection is available on the ground floor of the hotel.
quickly found automation: go get his press pass to the competent authorities - in this case, Ophelia ChiliPoker - Then go to see friends, who have been there a few days already. In passing, we want to congratulate Ronan "roroflush" Monfort, who made a beautiful place paid more, finishing 5th in the Open Deep Stack, and my colleague Harper, who finished 9th in the same tournament, thus becoming my new hero ordinary.
Final Table DSO
very next day, the test that I prepared these days is scheduled for 15:30: Hugh and I have an appointment with Liz place for what will be a lengthy interview for the December issue of the magazine That's Poker. Three hours later, j'e rinsed out of there, the spirit bubbling sort of information: they were first full interview in English, which was not for my life easier, and Liz has a nature enthusiast, the limit of the hyper-charismatic. Throughout the interview, I was almost impossible to maintain the detachment necessary to see everything, as this young woman emerges from sympathy and joy.
the evening, Hugh and I find her in the lobby Palace Es-Saadi, and we let ourselves be carried away by Alexandre Dreyfus, who organized an excursion to the heart of Marrakech, Le Foundouk. Three taxis are reserved for a disparate group: in addition to the general staff ChiliPoker complete, are present Steven Made In Poker, Lawrence and PFC ClubPoker Matthias Poker News, a man of the monthly "Interview" accompanied by his girlfriend a little English gothic singer is said. Lost in the middle, two players qualified for the Interview DSO, who spent a few days with Jennifer Favier, niece of a tall blonde eponymous lisp, participating in the Isle of Temptation for one, Tanida the other was accompanied by Virginie Caprice. If so, you've probably seen Virginie Caprice remember here .
The Foundouk is an amazing place: located in the residential district of the city, taxis we took them through the tiny streets, raising some dust from the floor clay, skimming bikes and scooters. On arrival, the group is supported by employees of the restaurant, we headed for the door. The interior offers an incredible contrast with the street, high ceilings, massive wood tables, a Deco worked, and a dual card, Moroccan and French, and a wine cellar to fall.
After dinner balla - understand drink champagne, Pouilly Fumé to accompany the entry and St. Julien for the main course, we all returned to the Es-Saadi. This evening was the welcome I knew the day would be devoted to debriefing of the audio tape and notes taken during the interview with Liz, and I needed to step back and clear my head. In this sense, Pouilly helped me a lot.
The next two days were devoted to the drafting of the article, I had to send 25 November at the latest That's Poker, which was delayed closure of the December issue.
I promised myself a day off to enjoy some 23-24 ° offered by the sun of Morocco in the late fall, and I wish this holiday falls Day 1A at WPT history to say that I tan at the pool while all my friends are working, but did not count on my lucky star, who decided it was time for a few clouds parked over Marrakech to dump their overflow of water. Sick. Having nothing else to do, exit the day off, head for the newsroom.
direct result of the weather: the press room, located under a large tent outside the poker room, almost broke up before our eyes: the return is a little in the panic, and reporters are installed on the poker tables empty at one end of the room.
As in Enghien, I have a mixed feeling in installing me in this room improvised press: again, I have no live coverage to ensure fair interviews to predict and prepare an initial debriefing of an interview with Caroline Darcourt to do, and go with promising players in the poker press. This is unlike any point to anything I've done these past three years is both exciting and confusing: before leaving Las Vegas in June, I had gradually come to the conclusion that I was condemned forever to tell the same coin-flips, just looking a different way of saying that AK had sent QQ ad patres , but it seems that this is ultimately not the case.
The rest of the stay will probably take place in the image of day 1A: I will continue to play useless on the bench press, until Tuesday. Or not.

Edible Plant Cell Candy
I had promised to write each evening on this blog during the World Poker Tour Amnéville ... The problem, you see is that this week - like all the journalists the way - I've known either morning, afternoon or evening, if I were to summarize what I take from this week in Lorraine, I am contented of sleep (a little), work (a lot), eating (when I could) and meet the needs of nature upon which each person normally constituted.
must say it was a big challenge: the coverage of the World Poker Tour was a first for Hugh and Fournaise me, and it would set the tone for the direction borrow River Tells . So we donated to bottom during these five days, with the assistance more than welcome Aurelien Lafarge, with whom I shared the editorial side, while Hughes was responsible for photo coverage, also helped him for a day by Cyrille Lefranc.
The tournament, overall, was a successful event. 543 players took part in the festival, which is a record attendance for a WPT outside the USA, and the press room was full: I've found most of my friends. The field was a good balance between beginners and experts - but the balance leaning towards beginners - and we had such an exciting day 3, at which the set-up chained themselves to an alarming extent,
Side practical life, I will remember many things from this WPT:
First, all casinos are not used to organize tournaments of this magnitude, which leads to some surprising reactions from the leaders or team organizer.
Second, the press remains an intrusive body for casinos, just to see how our suggestions and comments - not always sugar coated, it's true - were received by the organizers.
Finally, the tournament was held in a Casino open for less than a month (this probably explains that.) If the rooms probably deserve the star they are allocated (buffet breakfast, for that matter, and I assure you a connoisseur), the casino's restaurants, however, have much progress to do as well in terms of reception quality of service, not to mention the delicacy of the dishes offered. It seems that the servers have emerged from the soil at the same time as the casino, a month ago, and they zapped all the training part for restoration.
Example The most obvious: the final night of the WPT, Aurelian, Jools, Kinshu, Harper and I had an hour to restore us during the dinner-wagon, and we settled in the 'buffet' of Casino: Access to this buffet will cost us nothing, since Hermance Blum, PartyPoker, had generously offered us the tickets.
The other evening a cold buffet was available, but in this case - perhaps it is because they expected fewer people - not cold buffet that evening. We installed a waitress, and leaves us a choice of three starters, three dishes, three desserts, perfect.
Just installed, based on our experience in another restaurant from the casino, and determined not to let us have the timing, we indicate that we are part of the WPT staff, and we have that an hour to eat, the waitress is taking notice.
We order.
Twenty minutes later, seeing nothing happen, we remember the good memories of a server that passes the time. "Yes, I'll see in the kitchen" he said without stopping. He returned five minutes later asking, "You had ordered what, already?"
Jools starts to tilt, a bottle of Bordeaux has already reached and the time is now 35 minutes. We remind him of command and the fact that we are in a hurry, and he leaves, the better to return five minutes later: "Sorry, we have more input you ordered"
The bad-beat continues. The waiter brings the available input-a sort of bowl-we ship in less time than it takes to say "The rest, please"
Time passes, it we have only fifteen minutes when another waiter comes to the table, "You wish I could remember your order, please? "
It turns skit, I'm looking for where the camera is stashed. We ask what is the quickest to prepare, the waiter offers cutlets Milanese. Five minutes from the end of the lap, he brings a kind of flat awful, a real shoe meat, and I do not even talk about coaching. That said, give the customer the dish inedible five minutes before he must leave, it played quite well: the client will not return the dish in the kitchen. We are all left in the press room with a feeling of frustration, and if I had pay the bill, God is my witness that the server could sit on his receipt. At the same time, having worked several years in catering, I am rather intolerant. Since
is talking about the common little miseries, and following an idea of Harper, I'll try to list the things I had never seen before coming to Amnéville:
1 - I had never seen a pro player to land P'ti breakfast buffet at 7 am, not having slept with a guitar in hand, and interpret various pieces and varied, with a talent ... diverse and varied;
2 - I've never seen a plasma screen to emerge from a wall: it will take a bit to Captain Picard. By cons, to close the shutter, it is done by hand. We can not have everything, either. I can see the architect reported to the hotel manager: "All major hotels have it in New York is just too great hype, you need it absolutely is € 1.500 per room. What? Electric roller blinds? It's completely out of fashion, my good friend indeed! We do not want to seem old fashioned, is not it? "
3 - I've never seen many set-ups a day, then I think (day 1B, but day 3);
4 - I've never seen a Tournament Director to be told to shut his mouth: when the list of payouts is out, Sammy Torbey announced the earnings of the final table at the microphone. The problem arose when he began to announce the prices of 10 ° to 12 ° place, especially as the tournament clock clearly showed all the info: it has annoyed some, and a " ta gueule! "has emerged from one of the tables, followed by a general protest, fortunately short-lived
5 - I've never seen so many groups around the final table: it is true that the presence of three Local Heroes (both qualified and a member of the Casino de Lorraine Poker Club) to the table has much to do;
6 - I've never seen time that lasts 30 seconds, or count out loud the dealer to start at 5 seconds of the end, nor had to convince a floor manager it is fashionable to respect international rules of poker - instead of the local rules of the Casino - especially when is hosting a WPT (true, the scene had a high potential comical)
7 - I've never seen a security guard stood in front of me in the press room until I shut my pc while I'm typing the closing section of the day, interrupting me every two minutes because it's 4am and should set the alarm. When I pointed out that the rest of the world below (the press room was located on a sort of mezzanine, above the poker-room) he told me he has not seen the report that I have to leave ;
8 - I've never seen reports also stretched between a team organizer (I am talking about the team and not the casino of the Sponsor PartyPoker.fr) and the press, nor a responsible fashion Gestapo told a reporter he would " do everything possible to blacklist all casinos in France "
9 - I've never seen a 4-star hotel without room service. Put it down to the recent birth of the institution;
10 - Finally, I had never drank champagne in the press room: it is thanks to Cyrille Lefranc, photographer from Reims, that first time was possible, thank you to you.
In the end, on the lap I came back: the pace of coverages is still tough, but in this case I have less well supported, perhaps because I don ' had not moved from Las Vegas.
Finally, I sincerely want to send a huge thank you to PartyPoker.fr which gave us confidence for the first time, and that allowed us to start as River Tells the poker scene. Hermance Blum thank you for giving us this opportunity.
I'm leaving on Thursday at Enghien, for the cover photo of the final barrier with Cyrille Lefranc Poker Tour, and also help Sylvain Tia for blog content barrier.

After a night (slightly) watered with a qualified PartyPoker.fr Sofitel Luxembourg, I found pleasure Stephan and Rebecca and William Gerin Darcourt Casino at seven, before joining my room around midnight. the room we were allocated is frankly superb, but I did not have the intelligence to find where everything was located on the heating control, which resulted from a night of shit: it was within 25 °, and when you're used to a temperature closer to 18 degrees, you feel you sleep under the armpit of a bear. Brief.
I woke up around 9:00 am with the whole morning with me, but no desire to move: I was in complete coal tar, if not in the mood disaster - those who know me well know how I can be unpleasant in those moments.
So I used the morning to surf a little, read a lot ( Skin by Mo Hayder, though some know it) when the alarm of the hotel has started.
" like, well, this one is not me had not yet made " I told myself " m'enfin good, it is better than turning in Berlin."
short, a melodious voice saying in substance " This is not an exercise - following an incident inside the hotel - please win quietly exits "
Well, let's go. Come down - the stairs, I was only four floors down fortunately - it was obviously a false alarm. At the same time, it is better that a real fire, and I was at least allowed me to shake a bit before tackling the day 1A of the WPT Amnéville.
In short, if I have to summarize this day 1A: 260 players, some stars, 10 hours of gameplay interspersed with breaks for varying durations, and a real exhaustion that falls on me late in the day. Despite this, the first day of coverage for PartyPoker.fr is rather successful, even though we have many stammered at first.
The day did not lack interest, although I used to say that one day tournaments like a vast battlefield. The fact that journalists find my friends really made me happy - even if they have not failed me spoof that I wear the label of "Official media" on this one then. I saw also a lot of players who have become friends by force of the cross on the circuit. And it's good: I had stayed away from the microcosm poker since the WSOP in Las Vegas last summer, and I feel like it happened an eternity since the last time that I 'have reported a gamble. Seeing that the people do not have completely forgotten is really reassuring, especially when one knows the side of this volatile environment.
There remain four days of tournament coverage, and the rate of 16 contact hours per day poker-room, my side risk unstable quickly resurface ... but it's good to be seated back on the bench press!
